It's so that GameFreak can pretend they tried a difficulty mode, tell everyone it failed because no one used it (even though it's a pain in the ass to unlock anyway, especially if you're playing White 2), then have a shitty reason for never doing difficulty ever again, all whilst continuing to make their newer games easier and easier to the point where they're so fucking casualised that a literal baby can beat the game in half an hour.
