It strikes me as being pretty cruel to rename a Pokemon after it evolves. It's like you don't consider it the same Pokemon anymore, it's still your same bro. I imagine a consistent name is one of the things that helps a Pokemon not have identity disorders after its body and appearance and completely transformed in an instant.

It's only useful if you are catching multiple pokemon for breeding.
