Because owning a gym doesn't mean a whole lot as of now. Those "heavy hitters" may come in groups of 3 or 4 and will hold the gym for a few hours at most.

6v2-3 isn't a hard battle, and 18v2-4 is unwinnable, gyms will change hands often so most people are (rightly) under the impression that gyms don't mean a whole lot and will put whatever weak pokemon they have there to save potions/pokemon for breaking down other gyms for a bigger daily defender bonus.

We don't know if they'll add perks for this team. Assuming they don't, this is good news. If they do it's bad news for red and blue. Why?

Silph road has discovered that currently, Pokemon hatched from eggs have higher IVs. If each team gets a perk, team yellow could theoretically have the most strongest Pokemon due to their focus on eggs

Well if your pokemon is maxed on power up candy and all than the only thing you can really do is level up.
Max CP varies even with the same pokemon for instance I have 3 maxd vaporeons at 1994, 1986 and 1941 (All with the same height and weight). So I don't think you can go from 1200-1400 but if 1200 is the smallest maybe you could reach close to 1300.

I spent one hour walking around my little village this afternoon and after some Rattata and Pidgey I caught this. Well, I'm still at level 3, of course I'm not expecting to find anything fancy, even though the program told me that an Alakazam and a Weepinbell were near me. One question: in some points of the map I could see a group of leaves raising from the ground. Is there any meaning behind this? I thought that maybe there could be a pokemon there, but when I approached a group of leaves no pokemon appeared.

Pokemon have the same stats as in the original games. Health, Attack, Defense, Special and Speed. The game calculates CP based on stats in that order of significance, which explains why Pokemon with high HP and Attack have such high CP, while Pokemon with high Speed but low HP are garbage.

Servers have to be working. I walked 10km last two days and got 0.3km because servers were down
IME you also have to have the app open and screen on. There's a power saving seeing that will make the screen dark after a few minutes if you're just walking with it in your pocket, but if you turn your phone screen off or your phone goes to sleep I don't think it counts for the egg
