The number of Pokemon added affects collecting, but not the battling portion. Naturally a larger update is preferable, I'd love a generation that introduced 200 Pokemon! But that not the sole aspect of pokemon, especially considering we're nearing a thousand options to choose from.

Alright, I can see what you're saying, but it's still not good at all that one half gets the short end of a stick for a generation.
Hot opinions coming through, but I don't think settling for less is a good thing at all, ideally both should be a large focus, and Gen V managed to do that. It introduced two(though niche, but I enjoy both) new battle formats, hidden abilities and a whopping 156 Pokémon, many of which I believe are in good quality.
Gen III is another well-done gen IMO, introduced the standard for VGC(doubles), while adding abilities, natures and a fantastic number of ~130+ Pokémon.

Personally, I think the standard should be at least 100 new Pokémon, while introducing two or three new game-changing features.

I'm not saying you have to agree with me, but I find little reason to purchase the new games if they skimp out on one of the two major aspects of the franchise. There's no reason I can't just go on Showdown instead for that.

Now I know these aren't the ONLY aspects of Pokémon, but it sours every other aspect when a major one is shit. XY, while not bad, felt very hollow to me. Though I still managed to enjoy things like Amie, I don't think I'd buy it if I could get a do-over.

You can definitely play and enjoy ORAS, I do not get upset because people like things I don't care for.
But I don't like the idea of remakes, ORAS is just RS with a few new features, some extra story and updated mechanics.
The Battle Frontier was easily one of the best aspects of Gen III for me, it was a huge post-game area with seven different facilities and ways to play that provided something FRESH and NEW to do. The thought of playing that in 3D is mouthwatering, but it wasn't there.
What does ORAS have to offer me then?
A Hoenn game?
I can play Emerald for that.
A 3D game?
I can play XY for that if I dare.
Do I care enough to have both at the same time to buy ORAS to experience them together?
Not really.
It's just not something I'm interested in.
