Made my own ROM of Fire Red randomized it and started a run before I fell asleep last night.

Lost two shitmons and a bro, R.I.P. Seabear.
Currently about to head into Diglett Cave.

Fairybear (Clefairy) was my starter.
Choices were Whismur, Cleffa, and Lotad.

My favorite type is Dark and wrecking all of them with Fairybear is cathartic.

I used a clean Fire Red ROM patched it with MrDollSteak's patch to add Fairy, Phys/Spec. split.
Inserted around 40 new Pokémon by hand. Uploaded all the moemon sprites as needed, taking from the Moemon Revival pack.
And made a few other edits as needed, such as selling Sun and Moon stones at Celadon Department store.

This is by no means my own work. It took me several days to get it all together, but I cobbled it mostly from actual hackers' work.

I don't know how to make a patch. I can just upload the ROM itself?

For randomization by UPRandomizer, it will change the Fairy type to ???. This is a known issue. It's easy to fix, if you have PGE, and the right ini file.
Just open up the newly randomized rom and reapply fairy to the Fairy mons, and Fairy moves.
Otherwise I suggest not randomizing until that bug is fixed.

Oh fuck, I'm so sorry. I totally glanced over the fact that this is unplayable garbage if not randomized, due to my unwarranted laziness.

I replaced 40 old mons with the 40 new ones, too lazy to expand the dex, and I was afraid I'd fuck it up. I didn't alter the habitats, or anything else. I just wrote over the old ones.
This was because I knew I would only play it randomized and it wouldn't matter.
This will make for all sorts of stupid shit, such as trainers with a new pokemon that overwrote their old one, and wild encounters for new mons being entirely retarded.

Yep, the ini file needed for PGE to properly edit the rom after patching and randomization is located at the bottom of that pastebin.

If you randomize abilities or items or whatever else, just cover those portions with sticky notes to avoid spoilers when you fix the types. Or be spoiled, up to you, senpai.

Use the Attack editor to fix the move types as well. It should only take a few minutes max, since there's 15 Fairy mons and 12 Fairy Moves.


I need to get some food and then I'll continue with my nuzlocke run. Critical hits keep scaring the fuck out of me.

I typically see gifted/bought pokemon as being okay if it's the first seen/caught in an area. Buying or receiving it counting as being seen/caught.
Typically you don't encounter Pokemon in a town or wherever you get gifted/bought one, so that's easy. If in doubt, check the stats to see where it was "first met" or whatever.

IE. The monkeys can be accepted if and only if you haven't seen/caught anything in that route.

Fossils, are a hard one. Do you consider it the area you got the fossil, or the area where you revive it?
I typically avoid fossils because of that.

If you want all new story, region, and pokemon, in a hack that's finished, try Order and Chaos. Although keep in mind that it has a bug that makes saving in-game not work right, it won't load right. Savestates still work, though.
As far as good...That's up to opinion. I think it's alright, but could be more polished.

The problem with HG/SS is the extremely shitty level curve and the lack of leveling options stemming from that. I quit my normal run on that game just before the E4 because I was so underleveled and there was nowhere to grind.
Also, the rom I have is shitty and crashes often.

Think Gyarados is a bit reduntant desu, you already got a water pokemon. Seeing as his stats might allow you to Jeigan him for a while at this low level might switch out the Golbat instead. You could use a ground type. or something neutral to electric with a ground move.

I've got a run of pokemon X pending, thought I might as well try this nuzlocke thing, to make things interesting, as I've heard this game is quite piss-easy.

Currently installing it on my 3DS, I can make screenshots, so that's fine, and I think I'll go with these extra rules:
- No exp share (duh)
- Dupes clause (The reason I'm playing this game in the first place is to fill out my AS dex). Catching a duplicate is simply prohibited.
- No running from battles, no grinding either, just move along (Repels are allowed and encouraged due to me wanting to finish this game as fast as possible)
- Battle style: set
I'll be possibly modifying this as I go along, depending on the needs of the game (field moves, that sort of thing).
Any recommendations from people who've played X/Y before? Should I consider some anti-healing rule?

That's something I'm noticing now. Though, trainer battles should be more than enough for leveling, and the "no run" rule kind of does it's own grinding.
All it means really is I'm not going back to a previous route to gain levels.

Caught Doritos the Espurr in Route 6.
Killed the first wild encounter in Route 7 due to me not acknowledging it being a new area.
Béééé honorably died after leech seeding an opponent in Route 7.
Doritos died in Route 7.
Went south without trying to go north first, no idea if you're supposed to do that, as I haven't played this game before.
Caught Quesh the Zu- er, Meditite in the Zubat cave.
Caught El Zorro the Zangoose in Route 8.
Caught Guillermo the Hippopotas in Route 9, sent to the Box.
Found a machop in Glittering Cave. Wasn't impressed, killed it. (Can't the controls in this damn cave be any worse?)
Turto-san died due to solrock's Psywave and Fire Spin. (Fuck, it was my only water type.)

This route is fucking tedious compared to the rest of the game so far. The worst part being that repels don't work in Glittering Cave, making Nope-ing out of there hard.

Gonna try to do a cuckold emerald nuzlocke. We have been doing a heavily modified and self imposed ruleset of having battles after every gym from red/blue to now X/Y.
What started with 15 players has dwindled down to 5 remaining competitors. I'm so hyped to have come this far and as it stands I only need one more reward from the player battles to have my team ready for the final 6v6 double elimination tournament at the end of our run that has been going on since January.

Yes, there's emulators for anything that can play pokemon games available on every system, although you're probably going to want VBA-M and Desmume for GB/GBA and DS games, respectively.
As far as the same gen, no. Feel free to play any pokemon game or hack that you want. The gba games might be easier to work with, though.

Some have tried it, but not many make it work all that well. Pokemon Maize has an optional Nuzlocke Mode, but it's only a 6 gym beta right now. Team Rocket Edition 2 will have a nuzlocke mode, but the hack is still in development. Order and Chaos changes the pokecenter to say 'dead' when you wipe(and gives you access to a grand total of 3 revival items, iirc), but that doesn't really stop you or anything.
If you want the rules to be enforced for you, your best bet is with some of the essentials games for now.

I'm inching my way through Gaia version. Yet despite having the whole national dex (as far as I know) I can't find anything I'm really interested and want to train. Gourgeist deserves a spot on my team because it's a fave of mine but I don't feel like catching and hatching hundreds of Pumpkaboos until I find one that's right size + right nature + not-shit stats. Aside from that I really like it so far and am trying to branch out and use some of the mons that I've always overlooked (I skipped gens 4 and 5).
This and DBZ Team Training have taken up all my free time lately, and I don't mind a bit. Though I recently looked at the Team Training wiki to check for evolutions/see what characters are available and it all seems pretty lackluster now that it's all laid bare.

I've also got Complex Crystal on standby in case I get bored with either of those.

This thread has given me an interest in Moemon as well.
