What are some super unexpected or "so stupid it works" strategies you've been beaten by?

Drain Punch Darkrai. I shit you not, it caught me off guard at a vital moment and fucked up the thing I had going.
>Who the fuck uses Mega Garchomp. Is this kid retarded?
>Hone Claws? What the fuck.
>Garchomp used Fire Blast
He swept my team.
>>27238235
Not me but I beat a guy on 6v6 with Roost Talonflame. You know that usually Talonflame have Choice Band to boost its shitty Atk stat without losing a turn with Swords Dance? Well, mine was holding a Sitrus Berry to recover some HP without losing a turn on Roost. The guy was expecting a CB Talonflame and I defeat the half of its team.
>>27238235
I miss when Explosion & Selfdestruct were viable moves. Gen 5's only mistake was nerfing those two moves.
>>27238271I run this shit all the time, and I'm always surprised when it works.
Also, a lead Kricketune with Sticky Web has proved pretty useful against my friends.

I made a PU team based around setting up a Castform, but somehow I managed to get every trap with each layer down and swept him with a fucking Crustle.
I was told pressing b repeatedly after throwing a pokeball would increase the chances of catching a pokemon

I was the likiliki user but damn fucked up so many people thus way. Explosion may have been nerfed but stab normal gem explosion is still fantastico
Any experience player could counter it but if they're not prepared it's basically an instant win
BellyDrum Magmar can lead to nasty stuff, knowing it learns thunderpunch and can OHKO Tyranitar with Mach punch/Cross chop.

Ingame AI for you
Wobbuffet with Quick Claw getting a priority Destiny Bond. I still won the match but holy fuck, you know someone's just in it to piss people off when they do shit like this.
Back in gen 5, one of my favorite things to do was bring in Mirror Coat Tentacruel against Rotom-Wash. They'd usually Volt Switch out immediately, leaving whatever Pokemon they switched in to be hit in the face with Mirror Coat.
Calm Mind Swoobat
Sturdy Magnezone. Some people don't bother trying to switch because they assume it has Magnet Pull.

Did this in BW.
Dusknoir, Self-Destruct Snorlax with Gem, Telepathy Musharna running Trick Room.
It was a trick room team that wiped half of yours on turn one. I also ran Regigigas on this team.

Wouldn't call it a strategy, but I got sweeped by a Boomburst Chatot.
I'm a terrible player, so I hoped to at least win in OU against that team...
>get Sigilyph from the showdown randomizer

>>27241658
>>27241658
What's the point of it being half Normal type? Literally all that does is make it shittier against Rock and Steel, and outright useless against Ghost.
>>27238677
Kek.
I like this.
>>27241735
That's the beauty of it. It's SE against things weak to Elec effectively decimating with a 800 power move, and it differentiates itself from the other suicide moves, but it's balanced out by being nulled by not only Ghosts but Grounds as well, and being resisted by some more things. If you think it's still not worth using then change the type to give it STAB from Elec typing or whatever.
I almost lost to a Curse Life Orb Ferrothorn under Trick Room once.
>>27241658
>use STAB EMP grenade after a Charge while in electric terrain against a 4x electric weak opponent
>mfw 5400 final power
>guy predicts my switch and his Magnezone uses Magnet Rise
>pretty normal, still have a fire attack for him
>Magnezone uses Rain Dance and I eat a huge Thunder on the next turn
>I think it's the most retarded Magnezone set I've seen
>guy switches to Sliggoo
>proceeds to eat both special and physical ice attacks like they're candy
>obviously eviolite, but my Knock Off mon is dead
>surprises me with a Counter to an pretty strong Ice Punch and kills another of my team
>goes back to full health with Rest and Hydration cures it immediately
>getting tired of the little snail shit
>get a nice switch to a bulky Scizor as it uses Toxic
>start to set Sword Dance
>all he does is using Counter like a retard for three consecutive turns instead of changing
>use Bullet Punch
>Sliggoo's health drops from full to like 3%
>my face as the expected Counter lands
Didn't think it would survive that, I probably should have put more EVs on attack. But holy shit, that Sliggoo was tanky as fuck. Also, never saw another eviolite Sliggoo again after that first time.
Still don't understand why using a Magnezone to set rain though, I think it even had a Damp Rock.
Mixed Raikou with Crunch has shit on me before.
I also had my team crippled by Deoxys-D with Stealth Rock, Toxic, Recover, and Recycle holding a Red Card. I didn't have anything with Taunt and none of my guys could OHKO it (this was gen-5 when psychic was still a decent defensive typing and Knock Off wasn't everywhere). It was so fucking annoying.
I was using a Chandelure (main game team, shitty EVs, etc) against a mewtwo in random singles on X.
I should have lost. I should have lost. All that person had to do was use a psychic type move and he would have won.
But no, instead his mewtwo usesfocus blast
I thought to myself "ok maybe a misclick, my chandelure wasn't able to one shot it, and I'm thinking to myself well I still lose
THEN HIS MEWTWO USESgiga impact

best story
>what a n0000b
>>27242678
His other moves were probably Roost and either Defog or Pursuit (less strength than Bullet Punch in this case since it still gets technician boost, but no STAB). I've used Scizors like that before, they're surprisingly effective. Especially hearing he didn't fully invest in attack it was likely a support oriented Scizor.
>>27242678
>>27242763
Swords Dance, Roost, Bullet Punch and U-Turn.
Used Bullet Punch because I was sure the Sliggoo wouldn't survive a +6 technician one and didn't feel like loosing that +6 Attack boost just for "unnecessary" safety.
Bad decision I guess.
I got destroyed back in VGC 2015 by a guy who used Terracott Beat Up strat, but with a base Charizard instead of Whimsicott, and he also had a Flygon with Feint to break Wide Guard. It was one of those things that probably wouldn't beat someone prepared for it, but I doubt there's anyone who wouldn't expect Mega Charizard the first time around.

>>27248842
you were outpredicted dude. Just accept it and move on
Power-up-punch into explosion metagross with weakness policy. I maximize his defense and HP, switch in to anything particularly weak, and set up a power up punch. I keep bullet punch in case I can keep going, but more often than not they swap something that beats me, I survive with 30%-10% of my health, and boom, one hit KO
>>27242419
I use Evolite Sligoo too.
>>27249073
Duuude I ran counter Forretress, and yes there were a couple rage quits that occurred.
Especially after one guy let me set up all my hazards while he swords danced. Perfect prediction on my part and he was ded. gg
Well not from the games, but once in the tcg online I got absolutely stomped by a deck that had only water energies and a couple of swampert ex
I am suprised I feel like I am only guy who use Mat Block on Greninja to get free boosts on teammate in dobles.
Levitate Bronzong with Balloon.
It's supposed to get the opponent into thinking I have Heatproof, so they hit Bronzong and get rid of the Balloon. Then when they go for the Ground attack, they find out I'm levitating.
Less useful now that Bronzong has 2 more weaknesses as of 6th gen, but it was fun while it lasted.

Immidiately switch into something to counter the dugtrio(I've seen most run focus sash and switch in on the hit) or even if he decide to stay in with durant still switch out so you're not left with a pokemon with truant when durant faints
>Dugtrio is sent in, hit it, it has shit defense, dies.
