What the series needs is a major time jump. Age the current cast up. Ash becomes a gym leader or professor, Jesse and James leave team rocket or take over it or whatever. An entirely new cast of kids.

I wish we could see Team Rocket as an organization again. Bring back old members like Cassidy&Butch, Atila&Hun. Bring back doctors Sebastian and Namba. Heck bring back those members we saw in BW, Dr. Zager and that other dude.

Team Rocket was pretty cool in the Johto anime since we saw them as a true organization, and I would love an arc where Team Rocket members arriving in Alola constantly war with the criminal organization there.

I recently watched an episode of XY when Kojiro actually did do something good instead of antagonizing the brats. Then Musashi tells him to wake up and he went back to being his bad self for a moment to battle them.
I also remember Kojiro saing he wanted to battle Ash and company fairly 1v1 once in a while.
