Platinum for main games. Unless you count the Battle Frontier in Emerald, but that Battle Frontier was filled with luck so I don't know if you'd call it difficult.

I dunno, duder. Platinum has a decent challenge to it in parts, but I think Yellow and BW2 are both a tad more difficult on average. HGSS might actually be the hardest.

Maybe if you are using an autisctic team. By that time, you're 3/4 through the game! Mars is hard because A) Purugly is fast as shit B) Purugly hits hard C) Purugly is holding a Sitrus berry D) it is early in the game and unless you are grinding in the grass, she most likely outranks you.

Right after beating the 2nd gym is not 3/4th of the game.
Night Slash hits everything you catch by then hard except for Bronzor. Machop and Monferno resist it, but they can't take the hits very well.
Skuntank has a high critical hit chance and a Sitrus berry as well.

Best Pokemon memory is doing a Nuzlocke run of heart gold. I could only catch grass and bug types, and it had to be in premiere balls, only the first grass bug per route, and I beat all gyms, and Red. Also got lucky and got a shiny HoOh as my first shiny ever. I have played since the beginning but this was the most challenging and rewarding adventure I still haven't been able to match.

Also wanted to note, I did have to catch a Krabby to surf me to get the crash badge. Also, having to run literally everywhere cause you sure as hell arent flying made you value fliers so much more, and admire Johto more.
