So we aren't getting any new pokemon added to GO until late this year or early next year, but is it possible we'd get more than 1 gen at a time? If it went one at a time, and take about half a year to add each new gen it would take roughly 3 years before GO would be completely up to date.
They are holding off putting in new gens as long as possible because they know most of the people playing don't like the later gens.
I fully expect gen 2 and 3 to come at once
They need to fix their game first
I'd rather they just make individual species candies work for all Pokemon, they seriously expect us to get fully evolved starters without being extremely lucky

It better be at least a year before they do. Diluting the pool anymore would make it that much harder to evolve rares. Unless they fix the candy system to something a little more universal, then who cares.

Also this.
Thats fine the game is already moving too fast, people already have almost all the pokemon and the game just came out
They are testing the breeding mechanics

Or maybe they just don't wanna blow their entire load of 700+ pokemon all at once. The longer they spread out update adding more pokemon and other junk, the longer they will keep people playing their app and possibly attract past users that did leave to return for updated content.

'Blow their load' nothing, going from 150 to 700+ of the little fuckers to collect in one shot is daunting for casual players, just the numbers would scare some people away.

Type candies would be a godsend.

I agree, but that would be almost a little too easy. Farming Weedles to beef up a Venusaur doesn't seem fair. I'd be fine with something like a tier system, like stage 3 evolution can be transferred for stage 3 candy, or something putting everything into common, uncommon, rare, legendary, etc. tiers.
