When it gets people like my girlfriend who was already sorta interested in learning how to play Pokemon even more interested in actually playing the games, it's cool. I like that.
The fact that everyone at my work takes a billion 5 minute breaks to go catch pokemon is really starting to fucking piss me off.

The only way anyone could think this is if they're one of the normie shitters who hasn't played since Gen 1. Nintendo has been churning out spinoffs nonstop. They have completely separate teams making said spinoffs. While other spinoffs haven't been as popular, there is 0 precedent to think that Go will even influence the main series, much less make them stop making games on 3DS or anything. Nintendo has absolutely 0 competition in the handheld market, because phones don't count as handheld consoles. The 3DS has kept Nintendo afloat. They are not going to abandon the 3DS or the main games or even any of the spinoffs that don't appear successful. What's more, being a Jap company, they don't give a FUCK about what Americans think, they just cater to the Jap crowd.

The main games are pretty simple, but they actually have a lot of things to keep in your mind if you want to maximize your battling, not to mention there's hard thought and care put into designing worlds, new battle modes, gyms, etc. Breeding can get super complicated if you're going for some specific shit. It's all a huge grind, but there's thought involved to some degree.
I refuse to call Go a game. It's practically a social media app where you can't actually interact with other people inside of the app. "Catching" pokemon has about as much gameplay depth as that little minigame for transferring pokemon from gen 4 to gen 5. Your "battling" is restricted to AI clones of other players, and the actual battle mechanics are a fucking joke, if you could even call them that.
And that's it. That's all you can do. There is nothing to this app, and that's why normies love it. They feel like they're good at it cause they have that number that keeps going up. Yet, if you actually asked them to build a good team that could hold its own, they'd have an anneurism because how could anyone POSSIBLY remember more than 151 different things?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!
