The last three past generation remakes were on different hardware than the previous ones (AKA one per handheld; FRLG for the Game Boy Advance, HGSS for the Nintendo DS, and ORAS for the Nintendo 3DS). I'm not sure they're going to break that trend.

Gen IV is my favourite gen but I have a feeling GF won't do it justice. At this point I'm expecting a reskin, even more handholding, lowering the difficulty down and complete removal of ingame Darkrai, Shaymin and Arceus events in favour of just giving them away in the Poke Centre

I doubt we will. DPPt is on the DS, so you can still play it. GF also included all of the DPPt/BW2 legendaries in ORAS, probably for this exact reason (alongside letting you complete the pokedex with Gen6 only).

I would expect, with the success of Pokemon Go, to see some 3DS remakes of RBY/FRLG. That's the one game you can't get on the new handheld, and nobody cares about the official emulated version.
