Here's a hot opinion.
Some art doesn't do designs justice. I think the small filler art on the same page and the 3D models look better than the stock art. And it's always been this way, I think the Red and Green art for some Pokemon look terrible but it isn't until they come to the West do they actually look decent.

I can think of a few traits that a pokemon should not have:

>design dominated by spikes
stuff like dialga as opposed to nidoking

>Long rounded limbs
rounded limbs tend to be stubby like in lickintung or jigglypuff, where long limbs tend to be more detailed as in rhydon or khangashkan.

Some pokemon ignore these rules (specially legendaries and gimmicky fagmons), but they tend to be followed often. The pokemon in OP needs shorter (like a furret) or more detailed (like an ursaring) arms.


However, in the end, the company making the game decides what a pokemon is. And they can stick a renamon or jibanyan in their next game for all I care. It would certainly be less visually offensive than the gen iv legendaries.

It has a maid head thing and it's body is made out as a maid uniform. It's a mascot of a maid/panda as a real bear pokemon.. It's a classic, clumsy moe maid tied to a mascot so it has the hugs and the awkward shy, clumsy affection thing.

It's real straight forward. You just need to look at it and you just know what it's based on.

It's a bear pokemon. So it has a bear's anatomy, ok? Do you follow?
It is designed based on mascots. It's characterisation is that it is super strong but super affectionate and it keeps messing up because of this. It's a combination of the standard behaviour of any mascot suit guy enhanced by standard "moe". Moe is typified by cutesy clumsiness, hence the pink, and maids are the typical moe characters.
There might also be some kung fu maid thing I don't know about...

Anyway, here's a picture to help you since a clear explanation wasn't enough spelling it out for you. The thing on her head, but as the bear's ears. You know, because it's primarily a bear but its design is based on a mascot and the mascot is a moe-maid bear/panda.

While this is cute, it doesn't look like the whole mascot/teddy thing. I get that it's meant to look like a red panda, but the original design was meant to stray from being TOO animal like and more costume like. If the concept idea was different I would actually say this is better in terms of a final product - but we have bears, we have animals, what we don't have is a giant cute mascot/stuffed animal pokemon (well until now that is).

I think there are loads of ugly Pokemon, but most of them fit their trope quite well, and therefore, are well designed. There are very few Pokemon whose designs I think are kind of off, and even fewer I think are poorly-designed. I'm kind of an edgelord too, so naturally I'm sort of biased towards, say, Houndoom or Zweilous.

That's the issue I had while drawing it. About halfway through coloring it, all I could really think of was "this really is just a big red panda, how can I make it look like a mascot character costume?". But outside of simplifying it and essentially making it the existing design with a slightly different body shape and color scheme, I couldn't think of anything to really make the mascot idea stand out while also bringing out a red panda design. By that point I thought I might as well finish and post it anyway.

I think maybe if Kiteruguma had a white/pink circle on the belly it would be a little better than just pure, solid black, but outside of that it's a good design. It gets the idea across just fine.
