As a kid my parents never let me have anything which was small and eyestraining so I never got to play Pokemon because apparently 'Pokemon wasn't for girls' and it was 'too eyestraining'. I guess it was also far too expensive for my family at the time, but I did get a few things like those pokemon glass marbles.

My earliest memory of emulation was getting a shitty Nokia phone which I installed a java GBC emulator (meboy) to run on Nokia's SymbianOS. It didn't work if the ROM+emulator was >1mb and Silver was the only one which fit.

I smuggled it into bed with me and picked Chikorita. Framerate was pretty atrocious and the emulator was buggy as a fuck but I didn't care.

Maybe or maybe not. When I hacked Diamond and Platinum I remember either one or both of the codes not always working.
It might not work from the Mystery Zone because you start the game on ground you're not supposed to interact with, so the game can't transfer the properties of the normal ground to the non-existent ground as it would be able to if you started on normal ground. That is *if* the code works by storing the properties of the ground you were originally moving on.

I actually still have him, and did all sorts of uploading and Romhack magic to switch him over to the GBA games, and finally to Black/White. Though the checker prevented him from going to XY or Rby/Sph.
