So I've been doing some thinking, /pgg/

When you think about it, no matter what CP pokemon you put into a gym, between the 6 pokemon the opposition gets to use you are guaranteed to lose the gym if someone really wants it. Instead of putting your 800CP pokemon up there straight away, it might be best to put a mid-size one (thinking like 200-400CP) at first and let other members of your team fill in the rest. Putting a strong pokemon in the gym right off the bat isn't really going to save your gym from someone who is committed to taking it. Thoughts?

The trick is to put a strong Pokemon of yours in that is weak to another type you have of about the same strength, then let the gym fill up from there. Easy way to boost Prestige in no time.

Well reposting then in case anyone has some advice for me


Alright, after only checking out my starter pokemon last night at 1am I gave the game a proper try today.

1. It's hot as fuck outside and I'm sure I'll have a bad sunburn soon, but whatever.
2. Went out and in total the game registered me walking about 11 km, though I think it was a bit more than that but I had a few hiccups occasionally.
3. Caught 68 pokemon today, and went from level 2 to level 7. My highest are a cp108 seel, cp102 spearow and cp81 pidgey.

I was in the city center which had a shit ton of poke stops and a bunch of gyms too, but it's a bit further away for me so that's annoying.

Every gym, even the one next to where I live, is pretty much taken by the one same mystic player who has a cp800 - 1000 pokemon guarding each. Not sure what I can do.

Hatched a few eggs but the step counter/distance counter seemed a bit wonky there too.

All in all I spent like 5 hours out in the sun, in the town, in a suburb and a nearby park with a lake.

Not sure I'm REALLY getting into this game. I don't know if I want to be this exhausted and sweaty all the time.

I've found 1 Water mon (Staryu) away from water but the rest have all been at an oceanside park for me. The only person I know with a Lapras found it at a giant water fountain.

i'm using a chinese smartphone that's been fucking up lately, i get frequent notices that my SIM card isn't activated, mobile data is spotty, i mostly connect when i get a notification my internet isn't connected, etc.

Actually coming along nicely. After a few days of dratini hunting I lucked out and found a Dragonair by the docks, like out onto the jetty. Finally caught a Pinsir, then caught a second even stronger one. Finally, I've noticed uni campus and grassy areas near lakes seem to be swarming with Evees. Got enough to evolve one and got my fave Vaporeon. Immediately went to take some gyms but could only get one before the 1hp glitch stopped me. When the fuck are they gonna fix that shit?

Say you have a nearby spot with a gym and 3 poke stops right next to each other.

Wouldn't hanging around there and maybe circling that be better than going from spot to spot to spot walking some ten miles and being all exhausted?

The cooldown on stops is only like 5 mins.

Sometimes it counts towards me steps and sometimes it doesn't, apparently if you put the app on energy saving mode and turn your phone upside down, the screen goes black and you can put it in your pocket and it will count steps, and you can set it to vibrate whenever a pokemon pops up near you. If you just started then you don't have access to gyms and thus no reason to upgrade pokes.

I'd save up the stardust until you're level 5 to unlock gyms, then work on your highest CP mon. You gain a huge boost to CP through evolution btw, and you encounter high CP pokemon more the higher level you are, so I'd say just hoard your dust. Dust cost gets really expensive for the higher CP mons.

Pokemon Go really needs to be able to run in the background. I just had a terrible experience while playing because I'm not able to lock the screen while I go around town.

Last night I set up a bunch of 5k eggs in incubators and told myself I had to bike 5k to hatch them the next day. I woke up, noticed it was raining, planned a 5-6km route, waited until until it stopped, and then set out.

I got to the end of my driveway before my phone managed to close Pokemon Go and open Google Chrome (0.3km lost). I got to the end of the road while keeping it open, then had to put my phone in my pocket again to avoid getting hit on the busy road. (0.5km gained).

I got halfway to my pokestop and discovered it was closed again (1.2 km lost). I opened it again, and by the time I got to the pokestop, it was closed with the app no longer running (1km lost). I pedaled around my pokestop, catching a few shitty pokemon. Missed out on an orange difficulty squirtle. Went to the other pokestop, and it started to pour.

The rain made my phone constantly fuck up, and I guess it disabled my GPS without me noticing. I was so wet that the rain soaked through my sweatshirt and even made my t-shirt stick to my back.

I got to the end of my road before I notice it wasn't running again (2.2km lost). I walked up my road and driveway with my phone in one hand and pushing my bike with the other (1.3km gained).

So, for something I expected to hatch me 4 eggs, I ended up getting less than halfway to hatching them and wasted an hour doing so.

tl;dr: biked 6km, only registered 2.3km because the app doesn't track while the phone is unlocked

Short successive sprints or kettle bells for cardio.
Lifting heavy for weight loss.
Go swimming for endurance.

except a huge part of why i've been sedentary and depressed is because i'm back in school and not working outside like i used to be. i will take ANYTHING to get me through this time in my life. after i get my degree and get back to a job outdoors i'll be happy and motivated again.

I'm going to be shocked if they don't add Sun and Moon mons to the game in October. Seems like an easy way to sell 3DS consoles and copies of S&M to the out of touch 90s fans.
Nintendo really needs to bundle together a New 3DS with Red, Y, OR, Sun or Blue, X, AS and Moon.
