It's not whether or not they flying or standing, it just looks shitty when they look like they are casually gliding along and not in a battle. You could have skarmory like this, where it is actually facing it's whole body forward, as if is about to attack, wings fully extended to change direction at any moment, talons ready as well. Skarmory looks like it's just lazily floating on a river

The floating/gliding doesn't bother me in principle, but you can't deny that it looks terrible for the majority of Pokemon. Pidgeot loses its sense of majesty, Salamence loses its fearsome look, etc.

It's really simple to fix. Just have them in their standing pose in regular battles. If Sky Battles return they can use their flying poses there.
