The best parts of the game are the routes and areas immediately following the Electric gym. Well, if you're into fantasy environments anyway.

Those parts don't last very long, and once they're over, the rest of the game is OKAY.... Better than the first half, but not fantastic by any means.

That has nothing to do with half(actually most) of Lumiose being blocked off. The only parts of Castelia that were blocked off at any point in time were the sewers in BW2.

Hardly anyone thinks rock climb was a good idea, and the bike mechanics were fixed in ORAS. Rhyhorn riding is still garbage.
