Hell, even just a short, two season anime about some kid going off on an adventure would be fun. More mature than the main series anime, but no unnecessary edgy shit. Something like origins, only longer and without the Charizard pandering. And more Pokemon fights that aren't just "glowing body parts and explosions." Also, halfway decent characters.

Promotional material and merchandising showed Red with Bulbasaur, Nate in B2W2 trailer picked Tepig and Brendan had Treecko in the ORAS trailer.
But that's not an official statement of their canon starters either.

That being said, I still believe that Game Freak often puts just a little more pandering in for the Fire starter than the Water or Grass starters, which makes sense as Fire is a much rarer type than Water or Grass. The only generations where I don't see the Fire starter as the poster child would be Gen III (Sceptile) and Gen VI (Greninja). Otherwise, you have Ash and his Charizard, Ethan in the Legend of Thunder and his Typhlosion, Ash and his Infernape, and Nate and his Emboar.
