So, I just put together this list of Gym Leader / Elite 4 / Champion type usage.
It's annoying how little variety there is with Elite 4 types, why are they almost always Ghost/Dark/Dragon/Psychic?
We need a Dark gym immediately, it's getting ridiculous now.
We need Poison, Ground and Steel specialists in Alola, they have been underrepresented in both Gyms and Elite 4 members. Also at least one of either for Fairy, since it's so new and needs representation.
We also need AT LEAST a Grass and an Electric Elite 4 member in Alola.
In my opinions Champions should be mostly no-type, but I guess a Fairy or Fire one would be nice someday.
What about you, /vp/? What are your wishes and speculations for Alola's league?
I think the reason they don't do Dark gyms is that they're too dishonest and fight dirty, which isn't a good influence for trainers. The Elite 4 can do it because by the time you reach them, you've already proven yourself and can face them.
Dark type should still have a gym regardless of what the Dark type stands for, they can always have the leader be a nice guy/girl who uses Pokemon who are nocturnal, less on the fighting dirty side of the dark type but using the "darkness" aspect of it.
and IMO Elite 4 seem more official and important to the Pokemon League compared to Gym leaders, so it's odd that having a high ranking, official league trainer using Dark types is ok but not a gym leader.
Gym leaders don't always have to respected trainers, i.e Giovanni is the leader of a crime syndicate but is also a gym leader.

I always thought an ex-"evil team" member would work for a Dark-type gym leader. Or maybe just an ex-robber or something.
>>26980054
Karen is pretty nice and still is a Dark type gym Leader.
What are the gym leaders/Elite 4 that use Pokémon that aren't their type?
I know about Bruno/Agatha/Lance's bullshit in Gen 1 and 2, but what about the other ones?
I know Volkner uses an Octillery and Flint uses a Lopunny and Steelix.
And I guess Whitney now that Clefairy is pure Fairy.
>>26980150
Lance is a Flying-type trainer though. His design even looks like a more mature Bird Keeper.
>>26980304
not this meme again
the pokémon a trainer uses doesn't matter, their title does
otherwise steven would be a rock/steel trainer
>>26979989
Grass, Electric, Rock, and Flying E4 If they had to use completely new typing. I want to guess that realistically, one of the E4 will be an Ice type user again.
>>26980403
there's already an icy mountain in the map, there will probably be ANOTHER Ice gym there, ugh
And I hope they never EVER repeat the atrocity of having two specialists of the same type in the same region at the same time (Drayden and Iris on B2W2)
If I could choose;
Ground
Fairy
Ghost
Steel
Dragon
Dark
Poison
Fire
Grass
Electric
Flying
Rock
Mixed
>>26980150
Flint also uses Drifblim in DP. And in RSE Steven only uses 3 Steel Pokemon.
>>26979989
Problem is, Dark is seen as an "advanced" type like Dragon and Ghost. I could see it being the last gym though.
I'd love to see an E4 go back to the "basics" with Grass/Water/Fire/Electric.
>>26979989
I would love to have Electric/Grass/Fairy/Rock for Elite 4.
We also need a female ground-type gym leader and we're long overdue for a dark gym.Already came up with some ideas, like a survival-geek grass expert who uses pokemon like Tangrowth, Sceptile or Victreebel
I want a Flying/Fire/Ground/Water E4
>>26980150
Candice uses a Medicham and Bertha uses a Sudowoodo in DP.
Volkner also uses an Ambipom in DP.
Honestly we need to get rid of specific typing for the Elite 4 & Champion. The gym leaders it makes sense because it's teaching you about type coverage, but the Elite 4 should stick to a theme of Pokemon not a type. Like have a pirate trainer with Mega Blastoise, Bisharp, Chatot, Machamp, and Sharpedo
>>26980377
Agatha doesn't have a title, so we can safely say she's a Poison-type specialist, yes?
>>26979989
Alder was a bug type Champion.
>>26981244
If GSC Lance can be counted as a Dragon trainer, Alder should be bug
>>26980463
Grass is just OHKOs. Every time.
>>26981305
Bouffalant even has Mega Horn
>>26981244
>>26981305
>Ice Creams are bugs now
>>26981734
>Steelix, Lopunny and Drifblim are fire types now
Gyms + Elite Four I want (in no particular order):
>Dragon
>Poison
>Fairy
>Steel
>Fire
>Ghost
>Ground
>Dark
>Rock,Flying,Grass,Normal + Electric Champion
Unfortunately, I am sure that we will get another Water gym.
>>26981734
And pteradactyls are dragons
Smh Dark Types Matter
Gym Leaders
>Normal
>Psychic
>Ground
>Steel
>Grass
>Electric
>Poison
>Dragon
E4
>Bug
>Fairy
>Flying
>Fire
Champion
>Fighting
I think that can be a cool lineup for a league. Electric is pretty overused as a gym, but the gym leaders of that type are always my favorites. E4 explains itself, we need more representatives of those types. Fighting type has good variety, so a champion of that type would be something pretty neat.
We need Rock and Bug Gyms that aren't so early-game. And a Dragon Gym to be early game.
Should Cheren count as another Normal gym leader?
He gives out the same badge as Lenora.
>>26984303
Should Janine?
>>26985124
Well, no, that's why I didn't include her as another poison leader.
But Cheren's gym is a different one in a different city.
>>26985246
Same type same badge tho, despite physically being a different gym leader
