None of Serena's three moments made him stronger, they just helped him get back on track when he faltered. She has nothing to do with his motivation, he's not doing it for her, and she's certainly no training partner.

Alexa and Clemont helped him get stronger for Viola, his own training and prior fights with Korrina prepared him for her, and his survival experience, plus the desire to beat Wulfric and his rivals prompted Greninja mastery. In fact everything involving Ash-Greninja's development was related to his opponents. I'm not saying she did literally nothing, but again the overwhelming majority of his development is independent. Serena believes Elle as a Performer gives people's smiles, this is a callback to her meeting with Serena and telling her to smile after remembering she lost her first tripokalon.

The conflict with Serena not giving people smiles is her saying to Yashio that she enjoyed performing with her Pokemon on the stage back in the Frey City tripokalons, which Yashio disagrees with since it shows that Serena disregarded the main point of the tripokalons and its giving the audience, the people who vote for you, smiles. Therefore, a performer is someone who doesn't rely on the audience but whom the audience relies on.
