I actually watched the DP dub when BW was airing, entirely aware it was really bad. The funny thing is, our local dub is even worse.

It uses the English dub as a base, so all the issues are still there, but even worse voice acting. There was even a time where the English dub fixed a mistake (Something about Defenses in the League), and the local dub reverted it back to the original.

Kanto and Johto in the anime are so different from each other writing wise that they should be separated even if they're both part of the OS.

Besides when the sagas originally aired everyone saw Johto as a totally separate arc from the first two seasons, even if the episode number didn't restart.

Alain is different since he was properly presented as someone who has his own goals and desires of his own. Shown to be competent and powerful, even hyped up as Ash's Strongest Rival. He wants to be strongest, and that is the one thing he has at stake. He wants to prove it, it is imbibed in him by Lysandre, and drives his character believing that if he is stronger he can protect the things he cares for, like Manon and Sycamore, and where else to find the strongest trainers than at the League. This is extended with his desire to battle Ash. His entire interaction with him are based solely on battling because Ash is the only person who makes him enjoy battling. This separate from the student-mentor thing that Shota and Ash has. Moreover, Alain is also treated seriously and wasn't created slowly to have someone beat Ash unlike the other league rivals. If Ash does lose to him it is isn't entirely unbelievable because of this.

I just watched the lastest episode and oh boy. It was pretty good i can't believe some anons here say it was shit. For me it was a pretty darn good start for the League. The animation was great and it gives that Soccer World Cup feel. After so many years i honestly think Ash could really win this League. That Rockstar guy and Ash saying everytime he'll win plus Greninja being Legendary Tier. I think this is it.
