No gyms now. Each island has distinct main quest and side quests and a final battle against an Island Guardian who fights alongside an elite/specialized trainer (Tapu Koko fights alongside Hala, for example).

Elite 4 is Fairy, Dark, Steel, Dragon. Champion is a big Hawaiian guy with Pokemon tattoos (he has a Muk on his arm for example and one of his new Pokemon is Shipprect, a Ghost/Water Pokemon that is basically a haunted boat. Imagine Lapras/Drampa body shape, but ghostly and boat

Why? I don't see how the size of the island would come first in this equation. It'd make more sense for the number of gyms and other content to come first, and dictate the size of the island.
