What can we expect from Sun / Moon balances changes? What generally happens?
If anyone has a good understanding of changes from say B/W to X/Y or D/P to B/W I'd just like to get a better overview of how it works or how GameFreak handles it.
Hope that the stuff currently broken gets nerfed, expect things you never saw coming to become completely broken.
Do normal Pokemon get stat changes?
Or is it just abilities?

Fairy type nerfs, possibly stealth rock pp being lowered or defog pp being raised. Then a new ability that completely fucks the metagame upside down.
Stats probably won't be updated, since they just did a rebalance last gen.
I doubt typing will change much either, but it's possible some types will be buffed (maybe take away randumb weaknesses/resistances that don't make sense, for instance fairy's resistance to bug should be the opposite.)
Last gen there were a few abilities that changed normal type moves to into powered up elemental moves, so I assume there will be more of those, variants of those (X type does less damage against X type while this ability is active)
In terms of a meta disruptor, that's harder to predict. I assume a variant of stealth rock, or entry hazards in general might be reworked somehow. I'd love flaming spikes or different field effects.

I hope Dustox, Politoad and Mega Alakazam get the missing ten points they deserve.
Btw I really like the new abilities. Hoping for an Unaware-like ability that prevents the opponent from changing the attack specifications with their own ability (no type-change and boost from Aerilate...)

Depending on the number of new Pokemon and megas, we'll get 5-10 Pokemon that greatly change both the OU and Uber meta games completely, as well as changes brought by older Pokemon getting new HA. Also I'm sure the lower tiers also change a lot but I only play OU, ubers and vgc.

Increase the burn/paralyze/freeze chance of Flamethrower/Thunderbolt/Ice Beam to 20% and decrease the burn chance of Scald to 10%.
