I think because it's pre-evo was hyped to the best starter, and it kinda turned out to be not. Mostly, because of the amazing Greninja. And the fact we get the Gen 1 starters with their megas and awesome stuff.

(I'd say the worst, but both Chesnaught and Delphox kinda tie for that worst starter title, and are dwarfed Greninja's Protean-induced Uber-ness)

Delphox actually is well liked, even if the mid-stage is more popular. I recall the Japan ballot had Delphox only a few slots away from Braixen, and they were both high up there.

Furries aside, a ton of the hate for delphox comes from it being shitty when it has so much potential.

Magic bullshit lets Alakazam use all of the elemental punches, Gengar use shit like Thunderbolt, etc. Delphox could've gotten amazing coverage by casting spells like thunderbolt and ice beam, but it got the short end of the stick and was stuck with hidden power, fire, psychic, and that was kind of it.

Then Grenigga over here has perfect coverage between all of this fuckhuge moveset, gets things like gunk shot purely for coverage, and has an ability that isn't just plain awful.

Get over it; Protean was never meant to be Delphox's, it makes perfect sense for Greninja beause of ninja arts. Simple as that.

Delphox has the worst in-game model of any pokemon.
It even gives hippowdon a run for its money.
It's also a garbage Pokemon. Unfun to use, shitty ability and no moves. You can't even use it ingame without falling asleep.
