There is literally nothing wrong with disliking Kalos. It was a tremendous disappointment- full of potential, none of it realized. It was as if Sinnoh had ended with DP, except Kalos was more poorly designed than Sinnoh. If you prefer HGSS to Unova by only a slim margin, I'd say you don't particularly fall into either category. Just a sensible person with good taste. I also like HGSS quite a bit, though I could only give it one playthrough compared to the several of BW.

BW2 I'm at a loss on. Even those who would dislike Unovamons- a matter of taste, though one I don't share- had a massively varied Regional Dex for those games. Perhaps some distaste for the region's design in and of itself. I could see disliking HGSS if they can't get past the unfortunate level curve and the frankly lacking Regional Dex variety. It improved on the strengths of GSC and added some neat new tricks, but did very little to amelliorate the region's weaknesses.

BW2, yes it goes away at least, but the game overall still feels really easy until about Skyla or so where it should get better even without healing items thrown in my face. Which is an improvement after BW kept vomiting Full Restores and Max Revives at me lategame.

As for your question about story at least BW had the concept there, but everything felt so hamfisted and everyone felt annoying. Ghetsis has a cool plan, but a plain motive. N feels like an OC to the point that a chunk of the trivia about him came from a Twitter post and not from the game itself. The rivals came off as annoying BW2 did them justice and honestly had my least favorite rival teams excluding maybe Tierno and Trevor. The setting clashed with the concept only managing to potentially make the player consider N's viewpoint for about a gym or so until they see the Munna kicking happen.

As for BW2, they just throw the original concept out the window and go full ninja pirates featuring Wasted Potential: the Scientist. Though crazy Ghetsis was cool.
