sup /vp/, which Pokemon manga do I read?
I've heard some of it is pretty brutal, with Pokemon dying and whatnot. I wanna read that one

Pokémon Adventures (or Special as it's called in Japan). That's probably the one you've heard about. Unless there are other more brutal ones that I haven't heard of.

how brutal is it exactly?
>>26874602
In either the Red or the Yellow arc, there's a moment where a Charmeleon slices an Arbok in half with its claws. And during the Lavender Town part, you can see zombie pokémon (decomposing).
But in all honesty, the brutality is greatly exaggerated. Scenes like that only occurred in the beginning and are very far apart from each other. It's still a good manga, in my opinion.
what about this one?

You're definitely thinking of Adventures. It's not nearly as edgy as people make it out to be though, there are a couple scenes like >>26874688 (spoiler:the Arbok survives, it can regenerate, it gets chopped up even worse later and survives that too) but most of it is only slightly rougher than the Ashnime.
If you're tolerant of cliches it's worth reading in my opinion, the art makes me super nostalgic, feels just like early Sugimori art.

Is there even an English translation of this?
