It super obscure. I think you have to read about its existence on a sign somewhere, and it doesn't work if you have your options set to L=A.

Still, I've used it in the past as a quicker option than going to the summary screen.

Also, seriously? This has been a feature in many other JRPGs for a long time. Pokemon is only now getting on the bandwagon for this. I guess SMT is handholdy too.
