I was planning to start working on a living dex in my spare time and I have some questions about it if anyone can help that would be great:

Any way to tell if a GTS Pokemon is legit I'd prefer not to use injected mons?
Any way to transfer Pokemon up from gen 3? Main reason I ask is I have the old promo disc for pre-ordering Colosseum which is a printing press for Jirachi and I assume those would count as legit and I could trade them for event mons I missed
What can’t I get legit? I'm fairly certain Genesect is in this category but not sure of what else.
What is difficult to obtain? I'm guessing these will mostly be event mons that I have missed
Anything I should know before starting that could streamline the process?

It was a massively disappointing experience for me, yes. HGSS were fantastic games, and even FRLG were pretty good I did a speedrun of it and then lost the game when I was a kid so I unfortunately didn't get to enjoy all of the new amenities, but ORAS just felt like they took the game, made it in 3D, and then tacked some DEEPEST LORE onto the end of it. I GUESS you could argue that it's a true remake, since they didn't add much that wasn't in the original games, but I was going based on what I saw in FRLG and HGSS, which was cool new added content, and I didn't get that. Despite its shortcomings in new content, I still would have bought it just so I could stay in the competitive scene, but then The Pokemon Company went and lost their fucking minds and just decided to allow EVERY cover legendary compete AND they still didn't ban Dark Void, so the meta is just no fun (for me) right now. Had I known then what I know now, I would not have bought the games.

They used the beta version of XY on it too. It's noticeably clunkier. They also "stripped" out features meaning they didn't bother to take the time to import them. You can also see that they just took the overworld blueprint and just clicked "import" and it complied the same single block of grass or rock wall or ocean and replicated it 10000 times. XY was well done and it's really disappointing, isn't it?

Well, usually injected Pokemon are made to be "perfect" (ie. 5IV with 0 in the unused attacking stat or 6IV) as well as fully EV trained and such
Usually they're given away for free as well
You can transfer Pokemon from Gen 3 if you have an old DS with a GBA slot.
So it would go RSE to HGSS (Pal Park) to BW or B2W2 (Poke Transfer Lab) to XY or ORAS (Poke Transporter)
So far, every Pokemon is obtainable legally with Volcanion being a special exception since it was only released in Japan in an exclusive event
Most of the Mythicals (like Genesect) are being released via WiFi download event (check the Pokemon site for details) monthly for the 20th anniversary event
So you'll either have to be patient or find someone willing to trade you the event mons you missed

There's not really a way to streamline the process, unfortunately. Just catch everything you have available to you and trade for whatever you can't obtain on your own

Be sure to ask in here free event distirbutions. You probably missed them. You can get them if you ask nicely!

Breed out a bunch of shitmons like eevee or a baby dragon. Put them on GTS with the comment "5iv 4egg HA Jolly" and then just request whatever pokemon you are missing!

Sableye is cool, but it's not great in game. I mean you can use it if you want, but you'd need to have another Pokemon to carry it, essentially. Its attack stat is mediocre at best and I'm not sure how much Hone Claws could help it. If you really like Sableye, maybe beat the game with a better team and then build a team meant for battling around Sableye or even Mega Sableye?

It should prove a decent Bastiodon for your team with its priority Recover and status, but it'll be a Slowpoke when it comes to actually getting KOs. It just won't be the main Staryu of your team. If you really like it, give it a Golurk and just have fun. There's a Chansey it'll end up being a real Charmander for you.

They're just a bit plain for me. I don't use Pokeballs, Great Balls, Ultra Balls, Premier Balls, or Repeat Balls on a regular basis. Anything else is fine. Pokeballs are ok on things like Foongus, Great Balls are ok on Tentacool and Marill, Ultra Balls are ok on things like Jolteon and Electivire. Maybe I'm just tired, but I can't think of anything that fits perfectly with a Premier Ball, except maybe Foongus (again) if you really don't like Pokeballs. Repeat Balls are a last resort for me.
