Any good examples when the fanbase suddenly changed opinion about

Serperior sucking balls was not an opinion, it was a fact.
Sure, it could pull Lech Seed stall and had Glare as a perk, but so could every other grass type under the sun.

Having Contrary made it unique and useful to an extent.

Now, design wise, it was always the top tier option, keeping in mind Samurott is garbage and Emboar was labeled as overdesigned.

I was a fan of Serperior from the very beginning. Its design was amazing in my opinion, and I really hated how useless it was during most battles. Contrary made my second X run a delight, since it's delicious to watch that special attack boost everytime.

Ugh, speaking of lame starters, that was the original offender... It still is, since GameFreak hates it, and gave it a shit ability.

I used to hate it, along the other two starters, since they felt bland and vastly inferior to Gen 1 starters, but now I kinda like Meganium and Feraligatr was the best, even better with Sheer Force.

I still do, it's the only starter I've ever boxed. Shit in game and competitive, and a bad design. I just can't love it.

Are you talking about generally liking, or for battling viability? From what I remember Serperior was not really hated as a pokemon, actually it was easily the most popular of the full-evolved Unova starters, it just wasn't good in battle, which an entirely different thing and a lot of pokémon share that. Obviously it'll get more popular on smogon if becomes good.
