Most anime series are based on comics and books that have been around for years already. The audience aren't watching to see what happens next, they're watching to see the material they're already familiar with animated and voiced.
"Spoiling" episode previews simply help show which portion of the story is getting adapted next week

Nothing like that.

Japanese love being 'spoiled' on things, it gives them more interest in watching. For example Japanese movie trailers very often showcase the entire movie and plot.
