>Cat ferret pokemon

Okay, what the fuck?

Is it supposed to be a goose, a cat or a ferret??
>>
It's a Pokemon. They can be any combination of things. If Gamefreak wants to make a cat ferret goose, they can because it's fantasy.
>>
>>26812782
A mongoose?
>>
>>26812782

The Japanese word for mongoose literally means "cat ferret".

And Zangoose clearly isn't based on JUST a mongoose like Yungoos is, it has some clear feline traits.

>>26812782
It's a cat ferret mongoose you idiot.

Okay, what the fuck?

Is it supposed to be a duck, a beaver or an otter??
>>
It's an Animal. They can be any combination of things. If Nature wants to make a duck beaver otter, she can because it's earth.

>it's a mammal
>also it can lay eggs
That boy ain't right.
>>
>>26815191
A platypus is literally a real life pokemon. It's a cute combination of features of real animals that lays eggs.
>>
>>26812829
It's not a mongoose.
>>
It's Mario. You can tell because it's a Nintendo exclusive with a big red M.

I know biology enthusiasts browse /vp/. Can anyone tell me what the fuck happened during the Platypus' evolutionary history that made it so... THIS?
The dudes are even poisonous.

>The venom appears to have a different function from those produced by nonmammalian species; its effects are not life-threatening to humans, but nevertheless powerful enough to seriously impair the victim. Since only males produce venom and production rises during the breeding season, it may be used as an offensive weapon to assert dominance during this period.

Only the males produce venom, and they use it on females when they try to resist.
>>
>>26815498
Not to be that cunt, but they're venomous, actually. I think some species of shrews are also venomous. It's rare for mammals, but it happens.

As for the egg-laying, it's not 100% agreed upon, but the most sound theory we have right now is that monotremes (which is just platypuses and echidnas) diverged from marsupials earlier than placental mammals. They retained characteristics of really early mammals and never updated their reproductive hardware to the point that marsupials and placental mammals did.
And the bill, is... not really a bill, but more of just a fleshy snout.
>>
>>26815550
Well then I'm adding "rapist" to the list of reasons why the Platypus is a very special animal.

>>26815598
Not even lying here: I was going to write venomous, actually, but then I changed it for poisonous because I couldn't remember which one was the correct one. Still, remembered something and learned something else, thanks.
>>
>>26812782
It's a mongoose. The reason it's called the "cat ferret" pokemon is because the japanese word for mongoose literally translates into cat ferret in english.
>>
>>26815550
"Asserting dominance" means scaring away other males.
>>
>>26815669
And that double meaning is also why it looks like a cat ferret instead of a mongoose
>>
>>26812825

Huh. Well, learn something everyday, I always wondered about that.

>>
>>26816934
Yup, no long snakey body which is pretty much the defining trait of a mongoose and other similarly weasel-like animals.

Plus they usually attack by biting as opposed to clawing.

The part about the Japanese word for mongoose translating to cat ferret is wrong (the word is the same), but the part about being a mix of a cat and a mongoose is correct, as Zangoose's Japanese species name is "Cat Weasel".

The only thing mongoose-like about it is its rivalry with Seviper, and even then, cats are also known to hunt and kill snakes.

Just look at this cat and this weasel and tell me which one Zangoose looks more like.
