The main thing you need to watch out for in Smogon is their coverage. Electric coverage, for example, is pretty low priority in OU because of how few electric-weak Pokemon there are who aren't also weak against a more common typing. In things like the Battle Maison, electric is one of the best coverage typings because of the sheer number of water and flying Pokemon you'll run into.

Basically, just don't be afraid to modify the smogon sets.
