There's a deity for each island. I'm guessing this is the deity for the first one. Protagonist meets him when he first moved to the island, making it apparent that he's some sort of special guy/chosen one. That's what prompts the prof. to give you your starting 'mon. At some point you'll be called upon to aid/summon the deities to help defeat evil team. The plot for this game is honestly my favorite, even surpassing gen V.

I know Tapu means something sacrosanct or restricted to the Maori. It's a concept that exists in many different Polynesian cultures, including Hawaii.

There will be 4 legendary mons similar to the legendary birds/beasts/regis/pixies/genies/swords of justice etc and each one of those four is the protector and official diety of the island, with Tapu Koko being one of them. In Alchemy, the Seven Primary Metals are influenced by the seven planetary influences. These being:

Gold represents willpower, vitality, energy, and success. The Sun corresponds to the heart (HeartGold) and distribution of heat in the body. Large portions of this can be related to Solgaleo.

The Moon is symbolic of water, psychic phenomenom, and collective consciousness (A lot of this fits Lugia's model).

Venus influences herbalism, arts like music and poetry, harmony, proportion, integration, opposites into a whole (Zygarde red and blue cores combining, possibly?). This could either hint to Zygarde's role as a guardian of an island or even another unreleased Pokemon (such as Gigareki, maybe?).

Iron acts in conjunction to frequently violent energy. It is said in alchemy to increase psychic ability and to bring emotional power to the physical realm. Mars corresponds to the muscular system, blood formation (which, according to one post on this board, is relevant to Koko being Hawaiian for Blood), and the purging of the body for health maintenance. This could easily relate to Marshadow, hence the inclusion of "Mars" in the name.

There are seven major operations of transformation in alchemy.

Calcination is the first, being to heat a chemical in a crucible to reduce it to ash. This is to make space for a new substance, as it is important in alchemy to transform a substance into an equal value (give a lot to get a lot). The heated chemical becomes a black mess, or a "black stage", a ghost of its former self. This may be related to Lunala, as it would explain its Ghost typing.

The fourth operation of alchemy is Conjunction. It involves the recombination of elements left over from the third operation, Separation.

Conjunction takes place at the Heart Chakra, also known as the Copper Chakra.

It is reflected in society as the construction of technologies and crafts to master the environment.

As I touched on before, Copper and Venus symbolise herbalism, spagyrics, magic, arts, music, poetry, design, theater, harmony, proportion, integration, meditation, opposites into a whole, odours, perfumes, and love.

I can see design, proportion, the heart chakra, and the relation of technological construction relating to Magearna. Maybe even magic, arts, and love.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see Magearna being a Guardian of an island.

I'm probably wrong about all of this though, so if anyone finds something wrong or important about this then please post it.

It's not even really too logical. I can't personally completely disagree with the Ho-oh cloud formation, as vague as it is.

However, the Lugia cloud was ridiculous. If Lugia's silhouette was anywhere on the map, it would probably be in the sea. So even if it's almost definitely not deliberate it would be the shadow of the "Lugia cloud" that is left on the water.

Alternatively, you could throw this out and the player is Tapu Koko.
