His arms are pretty awkward looking. I wish he was holding part of his Quilladin shell as a shield tho.
Spiky shield really helps his design, I have no idea why they didn't incorporate parts of that visually.

Yeah no, you could've given it Serperior's colour scheme and it still would've been disliked

The only cool design elements it has imo are the spiked carapace and segmented tail. Not to mention it was released in the same generation as the most popular starter pokemon ever, it was never really going to stand out.
