Fixed up the story a bit too finding Cyrus earlier and more character interaction like a prelude to BW which was really cool (only to be removed in gen 6) with a really good postgame which took out some of the lame battle frontier places (I'll miss you pyramid though)

Platinum wasn't "generally faster", it was marginally faster at best and the surfing tweak certainly didn't help all that much since water wasn't very prevalent in Sinnoh to begin with. The fact that the setting was still the same region as DP meant that Platinum still had to suffer from Sinnoh's massive layout flaws and design problems to boot, and despite the dex improvements it didn't change the fact that Gen IV's new Pokemon were incredibly weak as a whole.

They did the best they could with what they had, but you can't turn a 1 into a 10 with just a makeover.

Heck, if we ever get DP remakes, all they need to do is tweak Platinum's story a bit. If they have to do the split version thing, make Dialga/Palkia retreat into their own mini worlds to protect themselves from the chain and then put the full Distortion World in the post game, although fuck even that feels weaker plot wise than Platinum

Been playing a lot of the Gen IV games recently for a living dex that involves masochism or something

Really Mt Coronet is the singlr biggest issue with Sinnoh's layout. It's like a milder version of Zelda Spirit Track's Temple of the Ocean King. After that is how the part between Badges 4 and 5 are handled, then the snow literally slowing you down so much with no fucking clues on which route is the fastest, then the back tracking with the lakes, then after that how so many optional areas require back tracking to them multiple times if you want to unlock the national dex

Change some of the trainer distribution or make it no longer needed to see all regional Pokemon to get the National Dex, put some sort of short cut in each part of Mt Coronet so you can fast track over it, and... Fuck I can't believe I'm saying this, but put in OrAs' "So you wanna insta port back to this spot?" for a few spots (notably Celestic Town to Jubilife City), and it would help a lot with these issues

Thinking about it now though, Sinnoh really seems to like to slow you down every chance it gets
