The only ones I can think of are kind of Sableye, Houndoom, and maybe Lapras if it's meant to be the Loch Ness.

I thought Lapras was specifically referred to as based on the Loch Neaa monster. What the heck is Houndoom? I thought it was just hellhound
>tfw Sableye got Mega and it wqs just a bigger Hopkinsville Goblin and therefore probably won't evolve into Mothman or flatwoods

They do though. Hopkinsville and Flatwoods are ones they have a particular liking of that are less well known in the US, like Mothman.

mythological =/= cryptozoological

I assume Pokemon will have to resort to the Greeks at some point or another. They'd be missing out on to many opportunities. Icarus, Minotaur, Griffons, etc. And the legendary mons would basically already make up the pantheon.

Never heard of this, and it really looks just like Dusknoir. Doesn't Dusknoir abduct people too? Weird! I wonder if it was really based on this or if it's just coincidence. They're so similar but it seems like it'd be too obscure.

Never said the Japanese practice Voodoo, dumdum. Just that dolls, sympathetic magic and effigies are kind of standard in occult traditions across the world (and aren't really that much of a big deal in Voodoo).

Yokai are basically equivalent, at least it's usage nowadays. The US based Yokai Watch game uses urban legends.
>>
>>26592341
Not really. And it's a creature that people today claim to see fairly often, how is that not a cryptid?

>The US based Yokai Watch game uses urban legends.
Not really, it's more about puns and junk food.
>>
>>26592393
What do you think US urban legends are about?
>>
>>26592408
Rudolph
>>
>>26592295
Snipemon when?
>>
>>26592392
I think the deal is that unlike all the shape-shifting animals, sapient household items and so on in Japanese folklore, the tsuchinoko is one of the few that is mundane enough to survive into modern urban legends and sightings by drunk people out in the woods. It's pretty much just a fat snake, after all.
>>
>>26592426
The real life bird or the boy scout prank?
>>
>>26592389

nah
>>
>>26592408
Mostly aliens, serial killers and monsters scaring teenagers and rednecks. Goatmen, various hairy hominids, giant birds and so on. Never heard about a sentient corn or bacon monster.
>>
>>26592042
Flatwoods and Mothman have a cult status over there and the former gets odd video game cameos like in Space Harrier II and Majoras Mask. It feels like a Flatwood Pokemon is just a matter of time.

>first thing that comes up in search bar is flatwoods monster pokemon.
>>
>>26592492
>sentient corn or bacon monster.

>These are what Japan thinks America has as urban legends

>>
>>26592206

those are yokai not cryptids
there are plenty of those in Pokemon no shit
>>
>>26592209

Oh I never knew it used its tail like that. I thought it was meant to be just a possessed doll.
>>
>>26592295

I'm well aware of the yokai-based Pokemon already which is why I didn't mention them. They're asian exclusive so of course they're used.
>>
>>26592514
Most Youkai Watch creatures are based on puns rather than folklore, really. From the very beginning. It's also worth to mention that the Youkai Watch anime is absolutely obsessed with American movies and television, often the kind that will go way over the heads of kids. There's been parodies of Terminator, Looney Tunes, Jaws, The Walking Dead, Titanic, Star Wars, The Twilight Zone, Crocodile Dundee and more.
>>
>>26592606
It's not really a youkai, dummy. There are several Japanese monsters that aren't youkai.
>>
>>26592557
Please motivate why a creature that's still allegedly sighted regularly isn't a cryptid.

>>
>>26592632
Yokai is such a vague term that doesn't work very strictly in English to even say it isn't Yokai. Something can be a yokai and an urban legend. The definition of Yokai isn't narrow enough to disinclude it.
>>
>>26592458
An amalgamation of both.
>>
>>26592646
>>26592632

what I'm getting at is that these are japanese-centric and if they count as cryptids then I guess. Sneasel, Ludiculo, Shiftry, the sky guys trio, Mawhile, etc. are yokai where Dunsprance or Farfetch'd I suppose can count as cryptids. But this is more about wordly diverse cryptids seeing as the ones I mentioned are outside of Asia but have still been implemented.

Pic related, a Wolpertinger.

Something from the Codex Seraphinianus would also be cool.
>>
Tsuchinoko counts as a cryptid in addition to a yokai.

"Yokai" has many definitions and permutations, but there's a defining line between "yokai that were obviously made up as fables/jokes/children's tales" and "yokai that are claimed to be real creatures and have a place in contemporary urban legends". Tsuchinoko falls into the latter category, meaning it also qualifies as a cryptid.

Which puts Dunsparce in the same category as Sableye and Lapras, rather than Ho-Oh and Mawile.

Isnt Trevenant line based on Der Grobbman?

http://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Der_Gro%C3%9Fmann

"My child, my Lars… he is gone. Taken, from his bed. The only thing that we found was a scrap of black clothing. It feels like cotton, but it is softer… thicker.
Lars came into my bedroom yesterday, screaming at the top of his lungs that "The angel is outside!" I asked him what he was talking about, and he told me some nonsense fairy story about Der Großmann. He said he went into the groves by our village and found one of my cows dead, hanging from a tree.
I thought nothing of it at first…But now, he is gone. We must find Lars, and my family must leave before we are killed. I am sorry my son…I should have listened. May God forgive me."
