Meh. The whole theme of those two are that they're constantly one-upping each other in evolution. Durant gained steel plating to avoid being eaten, so Heatmor grew a fire tongue. Neither of your suggestions seem like a middle finger to the other Pokémon when they should.

I love the idea of Durant getting a Mega or cross-gen with Heatproof, and then Heatmor responds by getting one with Mold Breaker.

Durant beats heatmor though. Flat out one shots a nigga and is faster. Realistically, you'd be giving heatmor the first adaptation, something that makes it faster. Speed Boost, Gale Fire, just more speed outright, whatever. Speed boost could be justified through its exhaust pipes becoming a fully fledged motor.
THEN you give durant heatproof or whatever the fuck might help it not die to the beast that is gofast the anteater.
