The intention is probably just that they're close friends, similar to Maylene and Candice. Thing is, in the Pokémon universe, everyone seems to be friends on some level. So when two characters are specifically paired, people assume this must mean they are more than friends.

As for Skyla, well I have heard multiple excuses for her gloves. Some say it's the kind of gloves that bird keepers have, so their arms don't get clawed off. Some people say that it's to do with her job as a pilot? I don't really know, nobody has given me any convincing evidence. She has a sprite animation where her hands like, TRIPLE in size. That, along with her somewhat larger hands in the official art, and huge blob hands in the anime, just makes it come off like she has freakishly huge hands.

I am sure that's not the intention, but if it was supposed to be bird keeper gloves, or something else, it wasn't made clear at all. Honestly not a good design, for that reason IMO. I'd have changed her gloves in a heartbeat.

Aside from her gloves though, she's still one of the best Gym Leaders in the franchise. The rest of her design is fine, her personality is fine, her gimmick of being a pilot is fine. She's solid waifu material. Aside from her hands/gloves.

Maybe in the real world, but in the Pokémon world, why would you ever opt for the girls who are as generic as possible? I want rich vibrant characters with personality. Not "Generic Adventure Girl #03"

That's why I shy away from the protagonist characters in general, because most of them look too much like blank slates to project onto (I guess that's the point)

The Gen 5 protagonists are the only ones that ever stood out to me. Their personalities were very clear through their designs. Gen 5 was good with that in general, across all their characters. The rest of the protagonists are just... So... Plain? And the anime didn't help them at all.

I think I am being too harsh on Dawn actually, her design, especially in Platinum, was quite good.

She isn't supposed to be brown or tan, yeah but even for Pokegirl standards she's a little "heavy". Fanart tones this down a lot.

The last one point you're responding to, I'll agree it's a stretch. Fans jump to conclusions based on what looks like a suggestion to them and suggestion = confirmation in their mind. Unless Skyla or Elesa exchange dialogue about cleaning the drapes or some kind of kissing denial like the ORAS schoolgirls, then yeah nothing's confirmed or canon. It's just fans letting their imaginations run wild with a simple interaction.

Like someone said before, Lenora isn't even what you should consider "fat". Bianca has a tiny waist, Lenora is at average proportions, and Skyla just doesn't have a waist, which is much more likely to be seen in the real world than Bianca tier hips/waist/ bust ratios.
