Machamp can throw 1,000 punches in just 2 seconds and I remember reading somewhere that it could pick up a mountain with just one arm, so that's pretty devastating

Most fully evolved Pokemon can level a town in one shot. Machamp pushing a mountain (Not lifting, pushing) falls fairly well in line with this

i think of the stats as more of a reaction time/swiftness or (for attack) ability to perform standard physical skills under pressure in conjunction with speed type of thing,

like, blastoise can shoot water out of its cannons and you can remove all the water skills from blastoise and its attack or spa don't go down, therefore atk and spa aren't tied to a pokemons abilities but rather their ability to function in a battle.

Dragonite can travel around the globe in 8 hours. Ninjask has TWICE the base speed of Dragonite, meaning it travels around the globe in 4 hours. The idea of a 80 cm tall bug crashing into my house at that speed is fucking terrifying.
