Banning Scald and nerfing Fairies aren't just /vp/ ideas. The IV system is pretty valuable for Hidden Powers and for letting certain Pokemon underspeed other Pokemon. If anything, it could be truncated, but that might not preserve the original distancing between number values.

It needs to be separate, and here is an example of the value.

I want my Vaporeon to have the least amount of Attack possible and just enough Speed to be slower than Clefable. How do I do that? I make Vaporeon an Attack-hindering Nature, and put the Atk IV to 0. Clefable has a Speed of 156 at Lv 100, so I want 155. Since Vaporeon's Speed is 166, to make it slower I drop the Speed IV from 31 to 20, to get 155.

I want minimum Attack for Foul Play and confusion damage. I want enough Speed to underrun Clefable so I can switch safely into Heatran or Scizor or Mega Metagross via Baton Pass so those guys don't take a Thunder Wave or Fire attack on the predict.

This happens in almost any competitive game ever. In mtg, you have to build your deck/sideboard already thinking about countering specific matchups because you know everyone is going to use them.

It is actually what most competitive battlers like about this, fine tuning your pokemons until the point that they are optimal. And optimal =/= highest stats as possible.

You know why IVs are dumb? They dont actually change anything. Its just 31 more stats in every stat. If you took them away, literally nothing would change besides seismic toss getting a minor buff in the odd case
