The funniest thing was when Chronicles ended up being a mix of pre-digital and post-digital specials, so 4kids had to turn the brightness way up on the pre-digital ones so that they didn't stick out.

The artstyle in the manga itself has also been getting worse over time.
Part 1 still has the best art. After that I feel like it lost popularity, thus budget, thus has less assistants working on it. Also they changed some assistants around, they def got worse. But current Naruto's budget depends on the director. There's still some decent fightscenes. Like Kakashi vs whatever the fuck his name was. Inside some whatever the fuck jutsu

The anime is ruined because there are 923 episodes. Not because of the digital quality.

In a few years there will be 1000-1200 episodes. It's just crazy.

There are methods and shortcuts that let you create good-looking backgrounds in short to reasonable amounts of time (see: Bob Ross' videos), and they probably have multiple people working on the background sketches, multiple people on the lineart, colouring, shading, etc. When you split the work up like that it probably wouldn't take too much time.

But yes, it must be a lot of work for not much reward. I know that the animators get paid fucking pennies per frame but I'm not familiar with background artist wages. If they sold the art after then I could see it being worth it though.

As much as I appreciate a lot of small details that makes something seem more pleasant to see, especially from an artist's perspective, but from that second image, what's the point of all that? As stated before, having all that just for a few seconds is rather pointless, and overall just makes that scene look like a clusterfuck. When the focus point is say, >>26413944, you make your point across in a more compacted space of view, that's all you need. Seeing all that landscape in the background would be visually distracting, whether that was the point I don't know for sure.
As much as "Digital > Traditional" is being applied here, and I will say I do think >>26417380 and >>26417526 looks visually appealing, mostly all of this just feels "flashy" for the sake of being so, without a sense of consistency, compared to the older series. It also feels "stagnated", as in it looks like it could be an entirely differant anime at first glace, almost something out of DBZ at points or something more modern. While the old style had its charm being watercolored, but those times have passed for the most part thanks to technology in general.
