There's a reason All-251-Pokemon speedruns are done with Pokemon Blue instead of Red or Yellow- in Blue, Porygon costs 6500 coins, while in Red or Yellow, Porygon costs 9999.

Depends on what you want.
If you're going for a doubles match, Pory Z is actually really good with Last Resort if it has Adaptability. Slap some attack strength on it and make sure it only knows Protect and Last Resort, and structure the team around that.

Alternatively, you can go with the standard Download/Tri Attack/Shadow Ball/Ice Beam/Thunderbolt setup. Normally people throw Specs on it, but I like to toss random shit they're not expecting like Red Card on it.

Porygon is one of the only pokemon where you can be literally any type you want with conversion

In every single run in my Pokemon games I try to use different Pokemon I've never used before.
On a Fire Red one I tried using a Porygon and it was pretty decent up until I got to the Elite Four, which made it a burden to carry.
That was until it learned Zap Cannon and decimated Lorelie's team with ease.
