I mean I'm glad we aren't getting Charizard pandering, but giving a super special 'better than a Mega' form feels cheap

It's called the Command button (abbreviated Cmd) and it's the Windows logo button on normal keyboards. It's basically Apple's equivalent of Ctrl, most shortcuts that use Ctrl on PCs use Cmd on Macs.

I haven't been using a Mac for a long while so I don't remember where the seekbar in that player is, but it's definitely somewhere. Maybe the lower part of the window got hidden because the windows got bigger than your screen. Try resizing it.

From a storytelling point of view regarding XY itself, it's better for a Pokémon in Ash's current team to get a mega instead of one from a previous series he'd have no onscreen connection with. No Kalos mon barring Diancie currently has a mega and making one up that might eventually be contradicted by the games would not be allowed, so they made a different but equivalent powerup instead. This if you presume that it's not going to be in the games, which would mean the anime actually did something according to storytelling potential instead of merely acting as a commercial (and doing something like bringing Charizard back again for a mega).

I think it's mainly because they made Ash so competent and likely to win da pokebowl, that they're written themselves into a corner if they want to continue the eternal struggle of "Ash gets shit on in the league because MUH STATUS QUO MUST ALWAYS STAY THE SAME". Thus is where Ashninja comes in. All it takes is Ash nearly going kill from using Ashninja's power too much without being careful in focusing to win, and then he ends up out of the league due to being "unconscious until the tournament ended" and shit. Cue Ash hearing about Alola region, Serena getting pulled back for muh Kalos Queen shit, and Ash inevitably getting blasted back to level 1 and square one as the cycle goes on anew.

Besides, ever since the start of Hoemn, Ash has ALWAYS had a new female companion with every new region (May, Dawn, Iris and now Serena). Once we Alola region, then the new game's grill protag or some other girl will become the new waifu companion that constantly follows Ash, because Ash can never be able to stop picking up companions every time he tries to do his thing solo.

And also, I guarantee you that Pikachu will get the nerf bat used of them to go back to lvl 5 as per the norm when episode 1 of the new region happens, because such is the nature of this show that never ends.
