The island most resembles Honolulu so my guess is you start there and work your way to the main island with Kauai being the Pokemon league

Hawaii has literally just one large city, Honolulu, and that's where you'll start the game. There's nothing other than trees and volcanoes in the other islands. Don't let the Big Island fool you: there's not much in there.

I didn't feel like samefagging, and my main reason for pointing out those seamounts was because I found their length to be comical, only to realize after I posted it that I had forgotten to make a point of it.

Seriously, Hawaii is fucking long. People only pay attention to the first eight islands, but there's so much more to it.

I believe that Niihau and Kahoolawe aren't open to visitors so I wouldn't be surprised if they're not part of the game. Alternatively, one of them could be the new Battle Resort and the other could be a hide-out for the evil team.

Local here.

Big Island obviously for the obvious waifubait Pele legendary.
Oahu is where you start off because Honolulu and tourists.
Kauai is second on the list since most locals live there.
Maui for the Victory Road/League.
Molokai for post game.
Niihau is supposed to be a sacred island so I can see that as an island filled with rare and legendary mons.
Kahoolawe is closed off because of military fuckery so probably evil team place.

No one likes Lanai.

I personally like the idea of using the Northwestern islands for post-game. Also I feel like 8 gyms on 8 islands works a little bit too well for that not to be the case.

I think it'd be kind of neat if the game assumes that you're on vacation.
