Eh, I think the design itself is admittedly not that creative (though Pokemon hasn't had a black cat before which I suppose is the archetype this is supposed to be, but it's really just a black cat), but I think the way they spin it is pretty creative. It's black because it's coated in oil which is what lets it spit fire.

TL;DR Started out panicking, got over it, pretty damn pleased. Nothing as bad as when fennekin was revealed.

I've like Bowlin and Firecat from the moment I saw them, but less sure on Clownseal.

If I don't see it for 10 minutes I remember it as charming enough, with tons of personality, but when I see again it's just "meh". Still full of personality though

I think a lot of us were disappointed just because of the new gen shock. We went from complex designs the last few gens back to pretty simple. Humans don't deal with change well, but like every other fucking gen we get over it in a few hours (or even days) and it becomes the norm until next gen.

Great starter designs that will evolve into utter shit except one that will be Ash's main. They gotta make sure the star of the Ashnime doesn't look like garbage, but they won't even try to make the other final evos decent.

The cat is literally just a black cat with red details. It looks like something straight out of Yokai Watch. The clown sea lion is just Oshawott but as a sea lion. The evolutions may make it better but I'm not a fan of these designs by a long shot.

Loved the owl, disliked the cat and hated the seal. Now I love the owl, meh towards cat and like the seal.

This isn't necessarily true. I bought Red on the Eshop and while I was playing I realized just how ugly most of the Pokemon were in the original games. I hadn't thought about the graphics in years and suddenly seeing them compared to the crisp designs we have now was slightly alarming.

Mew just suffered from the same ugly art as every other Pokemon back then and they fixed it for aesthetic reasons, not even just to sell shit. Pokemon like Jynx and Mr.Mime were never going to sell a lot of merch and they still improved the way they look. There were some Pokemon that didn't even look like themselves back then desu.

I can't wait, I want to see flame cat has final evolution in Fire/Fighting four timesor Fire/Psychic again. And, there is cute seal in Water/Steel again.
