What relation do the names ever have with the region? Xerneas and Yveltal are French? Zekrom and Reshiram are American English? "Sol" and "luna" are from Latin and are commonly understood to be "sun" and "moon" in lots of languages. Even Russian, which isn't a romance language, calls the moon "Luna." It really doesn't prove anything beyond the fact they are related to the sun and moon.
