Since we got eviolite they pulled the plug on every new evolution for old Pokémon, then they came out with megas and I think we'll get only them from now on.

I have yet to see any official statement that we won't be getting new evolutions. As far as I can tell, it's all theories that come effectively out of thin air, but that some people convinced themselves of anyway.

Gen V had all new Pokémon, so adding cross gen evos would not have fit with their design choices that gen. Gen VI had Sylveon, and if you want to ignore that for some arbitrary reason, News evolutions would not have fit with the design choices of gen VI again since Mega Evolution was the new thing that they decided to focus on. However, now that we know Mega Evolution well enough, there is no reason why there should not be new cross gen evos from here on out. Obviously, Pokémon that can now mega evolve won't get them, but they would make a lot of sense for Pokémon that already have signature items, like Marowak or Farfetch'd.

I have seen people claim that they won't introduce new cross gen evos because it would make Pokémon that could not use Eviolite before suddenly get a boost from it, which would be inconsistent. But if it's fine to suddenly retype old Pokémon and give them immunities and resistances that they didn't have before, surely this minor inconsistency is bearable as well. The other big argument you see whenever an evolution for an old mon is brought up is “But X would be broken with Eviolite!“. However, you can count on one hand the number of actually good eviolite Pokémon, the ones that are better than their evolution. It's pretty much only Porygon2 and Chansey. Leftovers are better on most things that don't get reliable recovery, and in a game where Knock Off is prevalent, relying on Eviolite for your bulk is not great anyway.

Unless we get word of god that there will be no new cross gen evos, I'm not convinced by current trends that there will never be any more.

I think they're done with megas. Even ORAS didn't call them megas but Primal. Megas aren't a new feature anymore so they can't advertise with it
