Every saga has lower ratings than the previous. AG did worse than the OS, DP did lower than AG, BW lower than DP, and now XY. Its likely that kids of today don't watch much pokemon as they used.

Serena is oddly enough the least watched/viewed female lead of the series. Had Serena been introduced a decade ago reaction to her character and Amourshipping might have been completely different.

It is true though. Even if we assume a lot of people watch the episodes online, far less people are watching the show now than during a decade ago. Its probably because young kids don't get into the anime much anymore.

It also makes a lot of sense. AG came directly after the OS when the original pokemon fad was dying down and aired in the early 2000's, The reason May's fanbase is so huge is partly because she's the second most watched/viewed female lead after Misty.

I hope Ash/Serena goes canon. If we were still in early XY when the hints were subtle I could say the writers could get away with abandoning it when XY ends....but after how damn hard they've continually pushed it since like 2015 it makes me wonder. Entire episodes are now shipping episodes, this has rarely ever happened before.

I want either Ash wrapped up, or Serena to stay for one more arc and then the show to conclude.
