When did I say that? There obviously isn't an official world map, but that doesn't mean arranging it completely arbitrarily makes any sense.

That's probably much more accurate than anything else here, it's just not nearly complete.
Kanto and Johto are next to each other just like in the real Japan and Hoenn and Sinnoh are shaped just like corresponding regions, why wouldn't they be positioned the same way?
Plus, other stuff points to some congruency with the real world, for example Lt. Surge apparently being from America.
Even in the Pokemon world doesn't perfectly match up to ours, I'd imagine it'd still be something like a caricatured version of our world - think like how Unova is based on not just New York City but also New York as a whole.

My favorite part on the franchise are the regions and my favorite region is Hoenn, tho I would prefer to live in Unova
