How about instead of saying generation, we just agree to categorize games by national dex and say "dex 1" and so on? The endless screaming matches between people who can't agree on a definition of "generation" are getting tiring.
That way, if s/m are set in kalos with no new region and can trade and battle freely with XY/ORAS but have a new pokedex, we could categorize it as a gen 6 game with a 7th dex.
Changing the name does not change the meaning.
If Gen 1 means 151 and Dex 1 means 151 then what's the fucking point?

What about Unova2?
Everyone who matters accepts it's Gen 7. /vp/ will never matter, no what they think.
>>25825692
The issue is the idiots here who refuse to accept the idea that s/m isn't "gen 6.5."
>>25825695
Same National Dex as Unova1.
gens go by whether or not there are new pokemon. That's it. That's all there is to it. Mechanics doesn't matter and the region doesn't matter. It could be in the same region and have the same mechanics, but if there are new pokemon then its a new gen. 'Gen' refers to the generations of pokemon species. Its so obvious, even an autistic lump like OP should understand that
I'm OK with this
>>25825865
OP here, that's EXACTLY what I think. I'm just trying to find a way to end this god damn endless shitstorm, because clearly some people will never accept that. If we specify by saying "dex 1" and shit, then nobody can argue what we're talking about, and we can move on to talking about Pokemon again.
But I guess this is 4chan, so if it's not pointless shit flinging, it's not allowed.

How about you stop being a bitch?

>Same National Dex as Unova1.
Except it wasn't.
That makes things way too complicated. It would essentially divide the games by their groups, like R/B/Y, HG/SS, stuff like that. The part where it gets irksome is that Platinum has a different dex than D/P, and B/W2 has a different dex than B/W. It separates games people normally group together.
