I very rarely use my starter.

In Gen 5 I used a Panpour and never evolved it. It was fun doing a sort of ''Pikachu playthrough'' and having this cute shouldermon to battle with instead.

In Platinum I used a Starly, in HG/SS I used a Shinx I traded over, and in XY I actually DID use my starter, but I mainly used the free Torchic given away to early purchasers.

I don't like most starters well enough to use them throughout an entire run. Pic related is the only one I've taken through the league. I do have a particular distaste for Unova's starters, same with Hoenn.

Personally, the Snivy evolutionary line is my favorite out of all the starters from any game.

I like both Serperior and Samurott. Samurott more because I like quadrupedal final evolutions much more than everything turning fucking bipedal. Serperior is also the starter with the worst movepool in the franchise, because he got fucked over due to his Hidden Ability.

Samurott is boss and anyone hating on it for being quadruped of all things should blow his brains out and rid us of the audience that made fire/fighting happen and all bipedal fire starters.

I used to think they were pure shit, but their designs and usefulness have started to grow on me

The Oshawott line is probably one of my favorite evolution lines in the series. The samurai shell motif progression is simply genius and is only ignored by people born with objective shit taste. Too bad Samurott is only worth using for ingame use and shit in everywhere else. Im neutral towards the other two starters. Well, close to hate on Emboar for screwing over Samurott being a Fighting type, but its cool design and concept makes up for it for me at least.

Im puzzles me to this day that people still don't know that Samurott can fight on it's hind legs. The anime,3D models, and some promotional posters show that it has leg joints to stand up. Although having hidden swords isn't enough to convince them that it isn't a full fledged quadruped? Sign.....

Gen V is the only Gen where I don't like the final grass evolution, Serperior is just so bland. Snivy is cool, I loved his time as Smugleaf, but Serperior, ehhh.

Oshawott is garbage, Tepig is cool though, I love that he becomes Luchador Ganon.

Used all three of them but only because Tepig ended up being a Fire/Ground in my Volt White run

I tried in White 2 because I used them all before and wanted something fresh, but I still fell back and used Tepig. He is just too good to pass up.
I did have a fresh experience, though. The rest of my team were all mons I never used before.

In general I could see why someone would find the starters boring, though. Oshawott is a thirteen in a dozen water type and Serperior is just shit. Tepig was sweet, though.

Samurott significantly has more firepower(on both sides too) and doesn't get shat on by Grimsley. If your Samurott doesn't have a nature that lowers an attacking stat, it can effectively run both surf and waterfall without resorting it as an HM slave.

My favourite set of starters after Johto ones.
Serperior just looks nice and its speed is helpful.
Emboar has huge HP stat with amazing offences. I love that combo and I like its design.
Samurott has a nice moustache and Megahorn sets it apart from other starters (and almost all other water Pokemon).

I was gutted when i evolved it and it didn't gain a dual grass/poison typing and gain more poison moves.
What a waste. I dropped it right there at lv36 and was the first starter i dropped.
